Behind the story
Where the journey start
Established in 1999, Pepperoni Grill has been committed to serving Italian American Culinary Excellence to its customers for over 26 years. The restaurant was founded by Michael Weingard, of the Culinary Institute of America’s Class of 1993. While he was professionally trained at the Culinary Institute, Michael simultaneously completed an externship working under Chef Mark Peel and Michelin-starred Chef and James Beard Award-winner Nancy Silverton at their restaurant, Campanile, in Los Angeles, California. After completing his culinary schooling, he spent a year in Florence, Italy, to further deepen his studies. Upon returning to the United States, he collaborated on a business venture in Virginia Beach with his mentor and cousin, Tony D’Silvestro, developing Ynot Pizza, which evolved into the franchise known throughout Virginia today as Ynot Italian. After 5 years at Ynot Pizza, Michael moved to Coral Springs, Florida, to help with the creation and development of Pepperoni Grill, which has become a staple restaurant in the Coral Springs cuisine across two decades. While crafting the spirit of Pepperoni Grill, Michael combined family traditions–such as his grandmother’s pasta fagioli, lasagna, and marinara sauce, and recipes of his own invention, such as mushroom soup and pepperoni sticks—he has poured his breadth of culinary expertise and restaurant experience into this restaurant.
Creating a menu story
The Mashroom Soup
The Mushroom Soup, a fan-favorite soup of the day for 26 years, was created by Michael as a result of a happy accident.
- In a stroke of genius, he chose to substitute portobello mushrooms in a broccoli soup recipe; What he initially thought might have been a mistake birthed a creamy and delicious, one-of-a-kind soup. To place the legacy of this soup into perspective: to this day, customers leave their phone numbers with our staff to be notified when the mushroom soup is our soup du jour. It’ll be your lucky day if the mushroom soup is available upon ordering, as it is a must-try!
- Michael brings the tastes of his hometown, Philadelphia—a melting pot for food lovers to the plate at Pepperoni Grill in the Pepperoni Sticks. Made fresh daily, Pepperoni Sticks are served in orders of 3 or 6, offering a tasty twist on a bread stick as it is stuffed with pepperoni.
Grandma's Recipes
Michael welcomes our customers home in the way he knows best: by cooking his grandma’s recipes to invite them to the tastes of his favorite Italian kitchen.
- His grandmother’s lasagna has been a favorite among his family for decades, and this love has been extended to his customers. A recipe, passed down to Michael through generations, originates from Calabria, Italy, where his family line is from. With accents of authentic Italian flavors, the layers of sausage and cheeses are delicately compiled to form an irresistible dish of Italian glory.
- The marinara sauce is the pinnacle of our menu, as a supporting base for dozens of menu items, including our mozzarella sticks, pasta dishes, and even our pizzas. The sauce is another recipe from Michael’s grandmother’s kitchen, and delivers the experience of authenticity in every bite, no matter the dish it complements.
- The pasta fagioli soup holds a permanent spot on our soup menu, offering a comforting side option that makes ordering feel at home. The soup was a classic in Michael’s household, cooked by his mother and grandmother. The medley of beans, carrots, onions, celery, bacon, and pasta provides a hearty and balanced soup that pairs well with any of our entrees.

This is the spot! Pepperoni grill never disappoints. I usually only get their pizza which it’s always fresh. Today I tried the cheesesteak sub and even though the first uber driver cancelled, it still was fresh when it arrived (had a nice cheese pull 🤌🏼) Definitely would recommend. To my surprise it was bigger than expected I was able to share it with my co worker. Shout out to the chef for making it perfectly.

Casual family spot with huge portions and great flavors. It’s a no fuss restaurant that offers pizza, pasta, sandwiches, soups, and salads. They’re popular for takeout or dine in, with indoor and outdoor seating to choose from. I usually get the chicken franchise and it’s great each time. Their soups are particularly good too! You really can’t go wrong with any of their dishes. Service is really friendly and the meal is an awesome value.

My fiancé and I stop by Pepperoni Grill often for lunch and we always enjoy our meals. The pizza is delicious and the service is phenomenal. Brian was very respectful, brought our waters immediately (and refilled frequently) and split our shared meals into two plates evenly. Brian was very attentive and even gave me a slice of cake because i was crying after a very hard conversation/day. i would 10000% recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Love this place. Wish there was one closer to me in pompano Beach. We love the pepperoni sticks and the pasta bolignanes. The pizza is great, too. Update 7/1/24. I brought my daughter and wife here for dinner last night, and as usual, everything was perfect. Food, service, and price! I usually get the chicken franchise and it’s great each time. Their soups are particularly good too! You really can’t go wrong with any of their dishes. Service is really friendly and the meal is an awesome value.
